5 Ways to Keep Your Skin Healthy in Quarantine

Staring at your face for hours on end during Zoom calls, might be leading you to pay attention to your skin a bit more than usual. Breakouts? Fine lines? Under eye bags? Pores? Okay, okay – let’s stop there. 🙂

Between balancing video calls, managing this new normal, and feeling stressed about the pandemic — you’re not alone if quarantine life has pushed your skin out of balance.

If you’re looking to revamp your beauty routine so you can get flawless skin in quarantine, we’ve got you covered!

How to Get Flawless Skin in Quarantine

Reduce your sugar intake

Ever notice a blemish come through after a pizza, candy, and ice cream binge? Turns out, sugar and high carb foods actually spike inflammation, cause breakouts, and break down collagen. Yikes!

Avoid a high-sugar and heavily greasy diet while you’re at home. Instead, incorporate more whole foods to nourish your skin from the inside out, which includes getting your daily dose of vitamins through fruit and veggies.

Start dry brushing your skin

Your usual skincare regimen may focus on your face – but the skin on your body needs some lovin’ too! Start incorporating dry brushing into your regular self care and skincare routine, and you’ll love the results.

Dry brushing is an ancient technique (which is totally making a comeback, BTW), that helps exfoliate skin, remove dead skin cells, and reduce the appearance of cellulite. With a little extra time at home, daily dry brushing can go a long way, giving you a glow ready for summer.

Don’t wear makeup everyday

Though you might be in need of a glow up during quarantine, try taking a break from makeup on the daily.

Wearing foundation and concealer regularly can clog your pores, leading to breakouts and blemishes. Try it — just a few days without makeup — and you’ll notice an immediate difference in your skin.

If you don’t want to be makeup free the whole time, give your skin some breathing room and try a 7-day no-makeup challenge at some point during quarantine.

Moisturize

With all the extra hand washing we’ve been doing, our hands may be feeling a bit drier than usual. Let’s not neglect the skin on our hands. Make it a habit to moisturize your hands immediately after washing them, to keep your skin moisturized.

But along with your hands, make sure you’re maintaining the moisture on your skin as a whole – face and body. Moisturizing your skin helps with dryness and irritation, while keeping your skin looking youthful and healthy.

Applying body oils and scrubs are a great addition to your regular creams and lotions to lock in moisture, and get super soft skin. Check this article out to learn how you can make a moisturizing DIY coconut oil scrub at home!

Up your water intake

Now that you’re home all day, your water bottle should be your new BFF, right by your side. Make an effort to consume at least 2L of water a day to maintain hydration.

Though there isn’t scientific proof that drinking water leads to having perfect and glowy skin, drinking water does keep you hydrated. Meaning, if you don’t drink enough water and you get dehydrated, your skin can actually worsen (think drops in elasticity and overall dryness). A little H2O is always good, so drink up!
